Recipe and method adapted from Piece of cake :)
Ingredients: (for 8" inch cake)
- 330g all purpose flour (but the premium flour does make the difference.)
- 200g fine grain sugar (instead of 300g)
- 255g of unsalted butter (room temperature)
- 2.75 teaspoon of baking powder (I always got confused with the point decimal qty; anyway I'd added 2 x 5ml teaspoon.)
- 1.5 teaspoon of vanilla essence
- 3 eggs (room temperature)
- 270 ml of milk (room temperature)
- 6 different colouring paste/gel
- Frosting: Non-dairy whipping cream and or;
- homemade frosting cream (I will share the recipe as well.)
My tools
Grease all the baking pans beforehand
6 medium-size plastic bowls, 6 chopsticks to dip into the coloring bottle and mix the batter.
For cooling the cakes after baking (lay the grease-proof paper on the BBQ net)
On a side note: (Preparations in advance, and please place them within your reach.)
- kitchen scale (to divide the batter into 6 different bowls; 220-230g per batter including the bowl (+/-) ) It might not be the same for you due to different bowls we are using. Anyway, just estimate the size of the batter. It should be all about the same.
- Do sift your flour and baking powder in a big mixing bowl.
- milk and vanilla essence (mix together in a measuring cup)
- 3 eggs (break the eggs and pour them into a bowl)
- grease all the baking pans that you needed for this session.
- lay the grease-proof paper on the BBQ net for cooling the cakes
These are the six colours I'm using.
Method:
- Cream 200g of sugar and 255g of unsalted butter together till fluffy and pale yellow.
- add one egg at a time (3 eggs in total)
- add 270ml of milk and 1.5 teaspoon of vanilla essence, mix well before you pour into the mixer.
- add sifted flour + baking powder and mix well.
- divide the batter into 6 bowls. (see above for tips)
- add a few drops of the different colouring to each bowl, mix the colour well.
- pour cake batter into greased baking pans.
- bake 180 degree celsius for about 10-15 min.
- the cakes are ready when the toothpick inserted in comes out clean.
cream butter and sugar
add one egg at a time
Added flour.
then pour the batter to six different bowls and start mixing your rainbow colors!
cool the cakes
After the layers of cake have cooled down, you need to apply frosting to each layer and all around the cake.
Lastly, I hope my recipe/instructions serves you well. :)
